文中的winter solstice是“冬至”的意思，是二十四节气(solar term)一是每年阳历12月21日至23日之间，冬至过后，夜空星象完全改为冬季星空(starry sky)，并从这一天开始“进九”。而此时的南半球恰逢炎炎夏日。(midsummer)。相关词汇也有：立冬(winter begins)，大雪(heavy snow)，小寒(slight cold)等。
